LANDLINE
This project explores nostalgia through dying technology. Landline phones were an integral part of our society for so long and are now becoming obsolete with the growth of mobile personal phones.
As a child, I saw and used our landline phones every day. I was required to be physically connected to not only the phone, but the person on the other side, who was also stuck in a 6ft radius by their landline phone. I watched my home phones turn into my mom's Blackberry phone, and then turn again into a family of iPhones.
In the landline era, communication with far away peoples was dependent on your landline phone, a voice to voice conversation that required your presence in one location. Now, with the growth of text based conversation, the way we view phones has drastically changed. You can be in constant communication, no longer tethered to the wall by 2ft of curly black cord. Landline phones were an important part of community and conversation that has now become obsolete, and this project explores the nostalgia of landline phones and the various forms they existed in.
